Results of AGM held on 3 October 2018

Published October 9, 2018

LRU Community,

Many thanks to all those members who were able to participate in the Club’s Annual General Meeting held on 3 October 2018.

AGM Results

Following the mandatory standing down of last year’s management committee, elections were held in relation to the fulfilment of the following roles on the management committee:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Delegate

With the five management committee positions vacated, Raef Johnson and Toni Francis indicated their desire not to re-stand for election respectively as President and Secretary of the Club in 2019. In circumstances where continuing discussions were taking place in relation to the best candidates for these important roles for the upcoming season, Raef and Toni agreed to be re-elected on the night of the AGM on an interim basis whilst personal considerations and discussions were concluded.

Since that time, Raef Johnson has agreed to resign from that interim appointment as President of the Club and Mr Tristan Warner has been voted in by the Management Committee to fulfil the role of President as provided for under clause 28(3) of the Club’s constitution. In addition, by virtue of Tristan Warner taking up the role of President, thereby vacating his previously voted in role as Delegate on this years’ Management Committee, Mr Tim Curtin has been appointed by the Management Committee pursuant to clause 28(3) of the Club’s constitution to fulfil the role of Delegate in his place.

At this time, the role of Secretary remains vacant with the newly elected committee actively seeking to elect a suitably qualified candidate into this position for the 2019 season.

2019 Committee

The 2019 Management Committee for Lindfield Rugby Club as elected by the members is, therefore:

  • Tristan Warner (President)
  • Josh Rickard-Ford (Vice President)
  • Ben Dibden (Treasurer)
  • TBC (Secretary)
  • Tim Curtin (Delegate)

Special Mentions

The Club would like to take this opportunity to express heartfelt thanks to Raef Johnson and Toni Francis for the immense work they performed over the past 2 seasons. In particular, Raef undertook the role of President following a difficult period in the Club’s history and has in many respects ensured the Club has a solid foundation to springboard into its 100th year, being undoubtedly the most important year of the Club’s history.

We give thanks to Raef and Toni for all of their help and commitment to the Club and look forward to seeing them on the sidelines for many years to come as avid supporters of Lindfield Rugby Club.

Moving Forward

Stay tuned for further announcements in relation to additional sub-committee roles which are available to be fulfilled in order to ensure that the 100th year of the Club is both highly successful and commemorative of the values upon which Lindfield Rugby Club was founded.

Old Soldier.

Vale Vic Chandler

Published July 6, 2018

It is with great regret that we are announcing the passing of Vic Chandler.

A player for the Lindfield and Roseville Rugby in the 60’s, Vic’s greatest legacy was that he was instrumental in the formation of The Funnel Webs for the Golden Oldies World Tournaments way back in 1983.

Though the Funnel Webs are smaller in numbers, his legacy clearly still shines.

They call Rugby Union the game they play in heaven.

Mateship and camaraderie come first. Winning, whilst always important, comes second. Blood, sweat and tears are spilled on the Rugby battlefields each week and there is no more sacred battlefield that Old Soldiers Memorial at Tryon Road, Lindfield.

Our great club was founded on the back of mateship. A group of returning servicemen from WW1 created a club from nothing as a way to stay together and honour their fallen comrades. The famous sky blue and white hoops were born on that day back in 1920 and has thrived on the back of that passion of friendship and the common and complete understanding that as Rugby players, we are one.

Every now and then we all get the opportunity to give back and prove to anyone who will listen why the game of Rugby, and all that it stands for worldwide, is part of something bigger.

At times in our 99 year history, the club has called upon its community to help carry the load of one of our own.

That time is now.

Raphael ‘Raphy’ Gennaoui, one year old son of Phil Gennaoui (2005-2010, 100 games, 2008 Richardson Cup Premiership Winner – 4th Grade)needs our help. This tiny little fighter has been in more medical rucks and malls in his early days than any of us could fathom. He has many more scraps he will enter into in the next few years and we, as a club and as a community, have the honour of being able to play a small part and making that fight a little more even.

A charity golf day has been organised forThursday 24th May 2018 at Manly Golf Club and we ask that you all take the time to read the attached flyer for more details on what little Raphy has been through to date and commit to helping us make a difference.

Put it in your diary now. Grab 3 mates and organise a 4 ball. Organise your annual leave with the boss (husband, wife or work). If you are the boss, book a 4 ball and sponsor!!

Get your business name out there by sponsoring a hole for a great cause!!

Its not often in life that you get an opportunity to make a real difference in someone elses life. Do not let the opportunity pass.

Strong people stand up for themselves. But stronger people stand up for others.
