Battle of the North Shore

Posted on: April 17th, 2018 by president No Comments

The KWP Limping Lions are organising the annual Battle of the North Shore Golden Oldies clubs for this Sunday, the 22nd of April.

This can only be described as a monster of the yearly calendar for rugby, with half a dozen teams viing to actually finish a game with the starting players, while at the same time drawing the result, regardless of the scores.

We would love to see the Funnel Webs field a team this round, so get down and have a run.

Date: April 22nd, starting at 12pm.
Location: Loftberg Oval, West Pymble.

Back to Lindfield Day

Posted on: April 3rd, 2018 by president No Comments

It’s time!!!

After taking a break over Summer, it is time for club house corner to spring back to life in the only way it knows how.
2018 kicks off this weekend and in a little under 3 weeks Back To Lindfield Day against Hills Rugby Club is on the 21st of April.

On ‘Back To Lindfield Day’ we like to give a little bit back to the community we represent on the footy field each week, and with running rugby on the menu, it’s going to be a real spectacle.

It is also the 10th anniversary of the 2008 Blunt Cup (3rd Grade) and the Richardson Cup (4th Grade) Grand Final wins.

It’s going to be a great day and everyone is more than welcome so make sure to spread the word and get club house corner roaring!

Please note that due to the excess rain, all ovals in the region are closed, and therefore the event for the Funnel Webs tonight at Wahroonga is cancelled.

Please keep you eye out for details on the next game that is happening in the last week of April.

Melanoma Cup Trial

This Saturday, March 24th, sees us take on Mosman in our second trial day.

Each year we fight for the Melanoma Cup, kindly organised by Andrew Morbey, on the always lush lawns of Mosman Oval.

This will also be the last run for players to show the coaches what they are made off before the season itself starts on April 7th.

The games are all as scheduled:

Colts – 4.00pm

1st Grade – 2.40pm

2nd grade – 1.30pm

3rd Grade – 12.30pm

4th/5th Grade – 11.40am

The turnout for Canberra was great, and I’m sure we are all itching to hit the field once again.

The Funnel Webs season starts this Friday.

7.30 pm this Friday at the Cliff Oval, Wahroonga

For those that are unaware, The Funnel Webs are the Lindfield Rugby Clubs team that is entered the Golden Oldies Tournaments across Sydney.

It is open to anyone that is 35 or older, and still wanting a run around the paddock in a slightly less rigorous, yet more “social” than regular Grade Rugby.

The last few years have been a little light on for players, so we are looking at bolstering the ranks for the six games this season.

All information regarding the Funnel Webs can be found on the main LRU page, but if you need more information, please contact either Thierry at:

thierry_bareau@hotmail.com,

or the main LRU address at:

info@lindfieldrugbyclub.com

Subs for the season are nominal, and are easy payable from a link on the LRU club website.

Come down, and have a run. We will post the schedule for the season later this week so that you can plan in advance for the games.

Social Coordinator

Posted on: March 7th, 2018 by president No Comments

The opening for the Social Coordinator has, at this point, not been filled.

The role simply oversees the Poker Night, Ladies Day, and helps put together the Presentation Nights. Please note there is also a subcommittee to help with the larger events.

I am sure we are all aware that the club requires volunteers to help it keep going, so if you, or a friend would be willing to help with the coordination of the social sides of the LRU, please come forward.

Get in contact with myself on 0415 403 009, or at info@lindfieldrugbyclub.com

Raef Johnson (President)

CALLING ALL OLD SOLDIERS – TIME TO REPORT FOR DUTY

Posted on: February 27th, 2018 by president No Comments

They call Rugby Union the game they play in heaven.

Mateship and camaraderie come first. Winning, whilst always important, comes second. Blood, sweat and tears are spilled on the Rugby battlefields each week and there is no more sacred battlefield that Old Soldiers Memorial at Tryon Road, Lindfield.

Our great club was founded on the back of mateship. A group of returning servicemen from WW1 created a club from nothing as a way to stay together and honour their fallen comrades. The famous sky blue and white hoops were born on that day back in 1920 and has thrived on the back of that passion of friendship and the common and complete understanding that as Rugby players, we are one.

Every now and then we all get the opportunity to give back and prove to anyone who will listen why the game of Rugby, and all that it stands for worldwide, is part of something bigger.

At times in our 99 year history, the club has called upon its community to help carry the load of one of our own.

That time is now.

Raphael ‘Raphy’ Gennaoui, one year old son of Phil Gennaoui (2005-2010, 100 games, 2008 Richardson Cup Premiership Winner – 4th Grade) needs our help. This tiny little fighter has been in more medical rucks and malls in his early days than any of us could fathom. He has many more scraps he will enter into in the next few years and we, as a club and as a community, have the honour of being able to play a small part and making that fight a little more even.

A charity golf day has been organised for Thursday 24th May 2018 at Manly Golf Club and we ask that you all take the time to read the attached flyer for more details on what little Raphy has been through to date and commit to helping us make a difference.

Put it in your diary now. Grab 3 mates and organise a 4 ball. Organise your annual leave with the boss (husband, wife or work). If you are the boss, book a 4 ball and sponsor!!

Get your business name out there by sponsoring a hole for a great cause!!

Its not often in life that you get an opportunity to make a real difference in someone elses life. Do not let the opportunity pass.

Strong people stand up for themselves. But stronger people stand up for others.
